The Spyderco Tenacious Plain Edge G-10 everyday carry knife is certainly not new but still one of my favorite knives. It is in my normal EDC rotation more often than not. It’s a really nicely built knife that can be had at an economical price. I’ve included some detailed photos in this post so you can get a close-up view of the Spyderco Tenacious.
Regardless of the brand or price of the knife, it needs to fit comfortably in your hand and the Spyderco Tenacious does that. In the locked position your thumb rests comfortably on the jimping while the G10 handle has just enough texture to be held securely in wet conditions.
Note: This a knife I purchased from Amazon.com for my own personal use and not supplied by the manufacturer.
The Spyderco Tenacious Plain Edge clip is generous, well-made and secure. The clip can be moved and set for tip up/tip down carry and placed on the right or left.
The textured G10 handle ensures a good grip in a variety of conditions, but won’t tear up your pants pocket like some heavily textured handles. For example, it’s far less slippery than a smooth handle but doesn’t come close to the extreme texture of a knife like the Cold Steel American Lawman folder.
There’s a bit of glare on this photo, but you can see the blade steel type below the jimping. Spyderco uses 8CR13MOV blade steel on the Tenacious G-10. 8CR13MOV blade steel quality is fairly common on knives in this price range. The steel is a bit softer and will require you to touch it up after you use it to cut tougher items. The nice thing is that the leaf style plain edge is easy to sharpen.
The blade was well-centered and had no noticeable side to side play. Mine was sharp right out of the box.
If I try out a knife and I can’t easily open and close it with one hand I normally will disqualify it for everyday carry, particularly if one purpose for having the knife is self-defense. The Tenacious G10 is easy to open and close with one hand. It’s not quite as fast as an assisted opening blade, but still very easy to get open quickly.
The Tenacious uses a skeletonized steel liner for added handle rigidity and strength.
The Tenacious uses a Walker liner lock to securely hold the blade in place while open.
The liner lock is also jimped for additional gripping security.
Spyderco Tenacious Plain Edge Specs:
- Blade length 3 3/8″ (86mm)
- Blade steel 8CR13MOV
- Weight 4oz (115g)
- Handle material G-10
This is a knife I’ve suggested to plenty of folks looking for their first mid-size EDC blade. It’s very ergonomic, well-made, and the plain edge blade is easy to maintain if you are new to sharpening. If you’ve never had a Spyderco knife and want to see what they are about, the Tenacious G10 will get you there and not break the bank.
Note: If you live in a municipality with blade length restrictions, consider the Spyderco Persistance G-10 which is the same design as the Tenacious, but with a blade length of only 2.75″.
